Mary brought me a flyer from our parish about something called e5 Men. After looking at it, I remember reading something about it before, but this time it really struck me that I have to do something! So I am joining many other husbands and offering a day of fasting for our wives. Once reading the site I stumbled upon joining the e5 Special Forces which is fasting more than one day per month for other women in your lives. Needless to say that's all I needed. Here's a summary of e5...
The e5 Man fasts for his bride to imitate Jesus as described by Saint Paul in his letter to the Ephesians, chapter 5 (for which e5 is named). Fasting is eating only bread and water.
Jesus made a bodily sacrifice on the cross for His Bride the Church to present her to God the Father "without spot or wrinkle." (Eph 5:27) By fasting for our earthly bride and joining our sufferings to Christ's we intercede for grace for our brides. At the same time our act of bodily love in union with Christ accelerates our own conversion.
By making this sacrifice for the women in our lives we live out the essence of the gospel through a very particular act of self denial. To lay down one's body out of love for another is the central message of the gospel.

Thought I would pass this along from the Associated Press...
Pope to have his own Google channel with video
The Vatican says Pope Benedict XVI is getting his own channel on Google. It says the Vatican TV Center and Vatican Radio are collaborating with Google on the project. The Vatican's press office said Saturday that texts and video of the pope's speeches as well as news about the pontiff would be posted directly onto the channel. It says more information will be given next week. The Vatican began using its Web site widely to publish teachings and pronouncements under the late Pope John Paul II.
And I found this interesting blog post at CBS World Watch Blog, Will The Pope's YouTube Channel Be A Hit?
I don't have an iPhone or iPod Touch yet, but if I ever get one, I'm downloading this new application called iBreviary. The program was designed by Rev. Paolo Padrini with the help of an italian webdesigner. Here's a quick explanation of the application...
"The application includes the Breviary prayer book — in Italian, English, Spanish, French and Latin and, in the near future, Portuguese and German. Another section includes the prayers of the daily Mass, and a third contains various other prayers," AP reports.
Sounds cool to me!
Just saw this cool feature from EWTN. Father Mark Mary, MFVA, is currently on a pilgrimmage to the Holy Land through November 19th, and he's blogging about it each day. The internet really allows for some great information to be shared and this is another great example of the "good stuff" online. Here's what it's all about...
Every day, if possible, Father plans to post both a written blog and a video blog in which he will share his thoughts and emotions as he journeys through the land where Christ Our Savior walked.

When I read about the lack of faith and morals in our young people, I realize how much work it involves raising a Catholic Family in today's culture. One thing that drives me crazy is that it's hard to see differences between Catholic schools, either elementary, high school or college, and public schools. Some are successful, but others are failing. Just check out these results from The Cardinal Newman Society’s (CNS) Center for the Study of Catholic Higher Education latest study...
Key findings demonstrate that large numbers of students at Catholic colleges and universities are in clear conflict with the Catholic Church:
- Nearly 1 in 5 knew another student who had or paid for an abortion.
- 46% of current and recent students—and 50% of females—said they engaged in sex outside of marriage.
- 84% said they had friends who engaged in premarital sex.
- 60% agreed strongly or somewhat that abortion should be legal.
- 60% agreed strongly or somewhat that premarital sex is not a sin.
- 78% disagreed strongly or somewhat that using a condom to prevent pregnancy was a serious sin.
- 57% agreed strongly or somewhat that same-sex “marriage” should be legal.
- 57% said the experience of attending a Catholic college or university had no effect on their participation in Mass and the sacrament of reconciliation.
- 54% of respondents said that their experience of attending a Catholic college or university had no effect on their support for the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- 56% said their experience had no effect on their respect for the Pope and bishops. In April 2008 Pope Benedict XVI, recognizing the reality on many Catholic campuses, told Catholic college presidents gathered at The Catholic University of America that the Catholic faith must permeate all aspects of Catholic campus life.
“Is the faith tangible in our universities and schools?” the Holy Father asked the college presidents. “Only in this way do we really bear witness to the meaning of who we are and what we uphold. From this perspective one can recognize that the contemporary ‘crisis of truth’ is rooted in a ‘crisis of faith’.”
I'm just glad my kids aren't college age yet, as I have no idea where I would be happy seeing them go if they attend college. I understand it's very difficult to eliminate all of this, especially in today's "Culture of Death", but these numbers make me sick.

A great letter from Bishop Arthur Serratelli of Paterson, NJ to his diocese explaining the dangers of the bill titled Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). For those of you that don't know what it is...
Introduced in the United States Congress in 2004 the bill would remove all restrictions on abortion in the United States, both on the state and federal level. "FOCA goes far beyond guaranteeing the right to an abortion throughout the nine months of pregnancy. It arrogantly prohibits any law or policy interfering with that right," says Bishop Serratelli. This is the "dark reality" kept secret by propagandists for 'choice.'
Bishop Serratelli also talks about how Senator Barack Obama told Planned Parenthood the first thing he would do as president would be to sign this bill. That doesn't sound very good to me.

Just a quick note, that I have added a couple of links to my blogroll and one of them is for Catholic Greetings, a site with Catholic e-cards to send to friends and family. Check it out!
Just a quick link to EWTN's site for a new section they posted - A Guide to Catholic Teaching and Voting. Here's the rundown...
“EWTN’s mission is to advance truth and the teachings of the Catholic Church,” said EWTN President Michael P. Warsaw. “EWTN continues to promote and educate the public on all Church teachings, including those hot button issues of intense public interest, such as abortion.”
