Oridination to the Priesthood on Saturday, June 12th

Saturday, June 12, Deacon Sylvestre Obwaka and Deacon Gerald Okoli will be ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Gaylord by Bishop Hebda at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.

Also from the Diocese website:

On the eve of the ordination, Bishop Bernard A. Hebda will preside at Vespers for the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Presence of the Blessed Sacrament. The service, offered in thanksgiving to Almighty God for the generous response of Deacons Sylvestre and Gerald to the call to serve as a Priest of Jesus Christ in the Diocese of Gaylord and to pray for an increase in vocations, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 11 at St. Mary Cathedral.

Who could blame them at all for wanting to be priest in this country rather than their home countries.

Many from third world sign up to escape.

In the meantime we send volunteers to go minister in the theirs. Go figure.

Incredible that the hierarchs would prefer to ordain foreign celibate males rather than American married men and women called to priesthood.

    All about power and control!

American Married Men and Women called to the priesthood? I think some time in front of the Blessed Sacrament might be in order for anyone who feels this call. I'm interested in becoming a Deacon and the work and studies that involves is a very big sacrifice for me, a married man. Having two vocations isn't in the best interest of either vocation.
