GTARTL Procession and RESPECT LIFE Presentation planned for Sunday, January 22

Posted in January 22nd, 2012
by Jeremy Steck in Abortion, Catholic Speakers, Prayer, Pro-Life

Two groups that work hard at defending life in Traverse City and northern Michigan, Grand Traverse Area Right to Life and RESPECT LIFE - The Catholic Pro-Life movement in the Diocese of Gaylord, have events planned for Sunday, January 22nd the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

I received the email below with information about the events and with some disappointing news as well. A local funeral home received "angry calls" and now won't be participating in the event. Let this be a reminder that abortion and the need to protect life isn't just happenening somewhere else, but also right in our own backyard!

Defending life is important and prayers are needed to continue to have the strength to protect the unborn.

To mark the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, GTARTL has planned a memorial procession and service for Sunday, January 22.

http://record-eagle.com/friday/x897043835/Groups-mark-Roe-Wade-anniversary

It appears that the article above has created quite a stir from the “other side”. Funeral home fielded several angry calls yesterday from people threatening to pull business, slander their name, and finally have protestors along the route to throw eggs at the hearse and those involved. As a result, they have pulled their services from our memorial.

I feel that this is the time to stand strong, bold and mourn the lives of 54 million that are not here! God calls us to speak for the weak.

I ask all of you for prayers for peace and safety for this memorial and help getting the word out!

Line Up:
12:45-1:25 at St. Francis Church - 1025 S. Union, Traverse City
Procession:
Leaving promptly at 1:30
St. Francis 1025 S. Union, Traverse City to Oakwood Catholic Cemetery, 1325 E. 8th Street
Brief Service:
2:15-2:30 - At Tomb for the Unborn

REMINDER: The Respect Life presentation on The Theology of the Body beginning at 3:00 at Immaculate Conception Church, 205 N. Division. A light food reception will follow.

Here is a great prayer I found at Catholic Online...

To Protect Life

Loving God, I thank you for the gift of life you gave and continue to give to me and to all of us.
Merciful God, I ask your pardon and forgiveness for my own failure and the failure of all people to respect and foster all forms of life in our universe.

Gracious God, I pray that with your grace, I and all people will reverence, protect, and promote all life and that we will be especially sensitive to the life of the unborn, the abused, neglected, disabled, and the elderly. I pray, too, that all who make decisions about life in any form will do so with wisdom, love, and courage.

Living God, I praise and glorify you as Father, Source of all life, as Son, Savior of our lives, and as Spirit, Sanctifier of our lives.

Amen.

Sister Mary Margaret Johanning, S.S.N.D.
Nihil Obstat: Joseph F. Martino Imprimatur: Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua Archbishop of Philadelphia, June 1994

Remember to pray for the unborn, but also the people defending and protecting life, in today's world they need it!

Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pray for Us!

40 Days for Life

Posted in October 5th, 2011
by Jeremy Steck in 40 Days for Life, Abortion

I just wanted to take a minute and remind everyone about the ongoing 40 Days for Life campaign going on across the country. The last couple years I've volunteered for an hour shift praying in front of our local Planned Parenthood and it's really been a blessing for my prayer life. The last two days were great and today we had a lady walk up from Grand Rapids and join us in a rosary and The Divine Mercy Chaplet for the last part of the hour. It was also great to hear her experiences from the 40 Days for Life events in Grand Rapids. Let's pray particularly today for the young women who feel like they are backed into a corner with nowhere else to go but to abort their unborn children. St. Faustina, Pray for Us!

Just received an email from the The Cardinal Newman Society and it featured a video from one of my favorites, Father Corapi. Check it out!

Fr. John Corapi has taped the following message about what the scandal at Notre Dame means for our faith and the importance of not giving up the fight.

This bill really frightens me…

Posted in October 22nd, 2008
by Jeremy Steck in Abortion, Bishop Arthur J. Serratelli, Election

A great letter from Bishop Arthur Serratelli of Paterson, NJ to his diocese explaining the dangers of the bill titled Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). For those of you that don't know what it is...

Introduced in the United States Congress in 2004 the bill would remove all restrictions on abortion in the United States, both on the state and federal level. "FOCA goes far beyond guaranteeing the right to an abortion throughout the nine months of pregnancy. It arrogantly prohibits any law or policy interfering with that right," says Bishop Serratelli. This is the "dark reality" kept secret by propagandists for 'choice.'

Bishop Serratelli also talks about how Senator Barack Obama told Planned Parenthood the first thing he would do as president would be to sign this bill. That doesn't sound very good to me.

Father Corapi speaks, we should listen

Posted in July 17th, 2008
by Jeremy Steck in Abortion, Father John Corapi, Pro-Life

LifeSiteNews.com featured a guest commentary by Rev. John A. Corapi that gives a brief look back at the history of the United States and ahead to the future based on our decisions about contraception and abortion. It's not a pretty picture.

From artificial contraception to abortion to partial-birth abortion, then on to infanticide we march toward the abyss of oblivion, a society marked for death. Is it any wonder we can rationalize the killing of the elderly or the sick through euthanasia?

Abortion article in Record Eagle

Posted in April 1st, 2008
by Jeremy Steck in Abortion, Pro-Life

A sophomore at Lake Leelanau St. Mary school, Margaret Barley, wrote a very good article about abortion. I really enjoyed this quote from Mother Teresa at the end...

I want to leave you with a little bit of wisdom from Mother Teresa. She said, "I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is war against the child, murder by the mother herself." I believe Mother Teresa couldn't have been more right on this one. Abortion is the greatest destroyer of human life. The sooner we can realize this and take a stand for life, the faster we will stop abortion.

Rosary for the Bishop

I thought it would be fun to see how many people will sign-up from the Diocese of Gaylord. So sign-up and pray a rosary for Bishop Hebda and/or any of the other terrific bishops that serve and lead us!
